Operations during the COVID-19 pandemic, update 17 Sept 2020

Borealis keeps employing stringent health and safety measures to prevent spread of COVID-19 while continuing to take steps to maintain economic stability

  • Demand for innovative Borealis products remains robust in many segments
  • Resilience program continued to maintain solid financial position in face of uncertain global market outlook
  • Containment measures re-evaluated on a regular basis

As a responsible company, we are continuing to take all steps within our possibilities to help stop the spread of COVID-19 and protect our employees and business partners. Ensuring a safe work environment for our people is, and always will be, our top priority.

To ensure that we maintain our strong financial position despite the uncertain outlook for the global economy in the mid-term, we continue the resilience program launched earlier this year with focus on reduction or postponement of cost and investments.

Polyolefins supplied by Borealis are essential raw materials used in the healthcare, hygiene, and packaging industries. Our fertilizers and some of our technical nitrogen products are vital components of the food and medical supply chains and the demand for these products remains robust. Also our Melamine business could continue operations despite a challenging market situation. At this point in time, all our production locations and warehouses are maintaining operations. We are working closely with our customers, suppliers and value chain partners to proactively manage supply chain risks. As a global company with a strong local presence, we have prioritized a series of mitigating actions to reduce the risk of potential supply chain disruptions. We are also encouraging our value chain partners to reach out to us proactively via their direct contacts at Borealis to enable us to refine these mitigating actions.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic, we have followed strict health and safety rules to protect our people and taken additional measures. On our sites, this involves physical distancing, use of personal protective equipment and protective barriers, increased cleaning frequency and hygiene requirements. It has also included working from home wherever possible.

We continue with our priorities of health and safety followed by business continuity, always in closed alignment with the respective government guidelines of each country and region. Work scenarios are continuously being re-evaluated for all our locations individually with a risk assessment by the Borealis Location Leadership Teams, and our Health, Safety & Environment and HR organisation.

Again, we would like to thank all our employees and partners, whether working on site or remotely from home, for their efforts to ensure safe operations and business continuity during the COVID-19 pandemic. These continue to be truly unprecedented circumstances and we appreciate their dedication.

Borealis is well positioned to remain a strong partner for our customers and all other stakeholders during these exceptionally challenging times. We continue to proactively monitor and review developments and data in order to adapt our plans and mitigate the impact on our people and business.

We will continue to provide regular updates and information by way of our established channels. In case of questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to your direct contact at Borealis, or via the contact forms.
