Scope
This compliance defines and clarifies how LAT Nitrogen product packaging as delivered from our sites is complying with the requirements of the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive (PPW) 94/62/EC and the essential requirements of CEN technical standards EN 13427, EN 13428, EN 13429, EN 13430, EN 13431 and EN 13432.
Heavy metals
Packaging materials used to pack LAT Nitrogen products contain less than 100 ppm in sum of the heavy metals Pb, Hg, Cd and Cr(VI) as required by the PPW . This statement is based on certification given by packaging material suppliers to LAT Nitrogen. In practice heavy metals cannot be detected in our product packaging materials by normal analytical methods.
Noxious and hazardous substances
Substances (and mixtures) classified as hazardous to the environment according CLP Regulation (EC) 1272/2008, assigned with the symbol ‘GHS09’ and one of the hazard statements H400, H410 or H411 have been minimised according to standard EN13428:2004. This statement is based on certification by our packaging material suppliers.
Prevention
LAT Nitrogen is continuously using thinner materials for bags, liners and films. This work has been done taking safety and possible breakage with loss of packaging content into account in storing, loading and transport.
Pallets
All wooden pallets used for Melamine are heath treated according to standard ISPM15.
No chemical treatment is applied.
Reuse
LAT Nitrogen uses returnable containers for bulk deliveries. An extensive quality control system is used to guarantee the cleanliness of empty containers and tank cars.
Mechanical recycling
All LAT Nitrogen packaging material are clean as delivered and with proper collection and storing they can easily and economically be recycled as material. LAT Nitrogen has no own recycling facilities for packaging waste and therefore we subscribe to national systems in countries where we operate wherever such systems exist:
Energy recovery
LAT Nitrogen packaging materials can be processed into clean fuels with high calorific value.
